We love to celebrate the first day of Spring as it marks the coming of warmer weather, the emergence of new life and flourishing spring flowers.
So, when is the first day of spring? The first day of spring 2019, or the vernal equinox, in New York falls on Wednesday, March the 20th in New York. A highlight after a long winter, this annual milestone marks the change of the season from winter to spring, and we start looking forward to long summer days and sunny, warmer weather.

What’s Happening in New York on the First Day of Spring 2019?
Wed 20th March: Want to help to prep our city’s parks for spring bulbs to bring New York into bloom? Why not take a trip down to Central Park on March the 20th at 9:00 am to volunteer in preparing the grounds of the park for planting, and removing unwanted weeds. This event is completely free; all you need to bring are some sturdy shoes!
Wed 20th March: Spring is also the season for new life, and a great time for wildlife and bird spotting. Also held on Wednesday, March 20th at 9:00 am, tour guides from Central Park will be conducting a trip around the Ramble area of the park – a great spot to search for any of the 270 migrating birds that visit the park every year. Binoculars will be provided, plus you can expect plenty of tips and tricks from the local tour guides. On Now: The season for planting bulbs, the coming of Spring inspires us to reach for our gardening tools and gloves. If you haven’t yet visited the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Gardens, this makes for a great way to welcome the Spring season. Friday 22nd March: Take a walk around Conference House Park on Staten Island on the Vernal Equinox Spring Walk to spot early signs of spring, such as young plant buds and flowers, trees, insects and bird life. New Lighting Trends For The First Day Of Spring 2019
Celebrate the turning of the first day of spring 2019 by embracing the natural light of your garden, or creating ambient lighting indoors when the sun goes down.
