Feature on 2020 European Trends
We’ve been particularly delighted by a few colors that are currently popping up in new designs, and are expected to continue in relevancy throughout the year. Often times when you’re planning the decor for a room, color is the easiest place to start. And lucky for you, we have lamps and lampshades design that span the rainbow for you.
Champagne has been overwhelmingly present in the Milan Design Week discussions, as it offers elegant and dressed up a neutral alternative to a bolder gold or bronze hue.
Lemon yellow is splashing up here and there, adding whimsy and a breath of fresh air to kitchens, bathrooms, and even living rooms with quite a few lemon sofas populating trendy homes at the moment.
Fuschia and sky blue each added their own burst of excitement to the rooms and furnishings planned for display during the Milan festivities.
“Millennial pink” is still going strong after climbing the ranks of trendy colors last year, and although the name hints at a younger generation, it seems to be proving it’s timelessness by giving us such a delightful neo-retro mood.
A huge word coming into 2020 for interior designers has been “maximalism”. While we’ve explored, and even devoutly worshipped minimalism for the last few years, designers are playfully swinging the pendulum the other way, filling homes to the brim with whimsy and delight. Items of sentiment, statement pieces, and travel souvenirs alike gather and spillover on mantelpieces and shelves. This spills over into the world of light fixtures in numerous ways, with an exploration of fringe lampshades, statement chandeliers, and brightly colored lamps. It’s truly an exciting time!
Folks riding the maximalism wave, and those still in love with minimalism are equally interested in the eco-friendly practice of upcycling.
One of our favorite services we offer is our in-house lamp mounting, which turns items you love and cherish into custom lamps. This is a fabulous way to incorporate family heirlooms or other meaningful items into any of the new trends we are seeing come out of Europe this spring.
Designers everywhere continue to lean into a global influence, which creates a wonderfully unifying effect on the homes we create. The Livingetc blog shared that “from Australian landscaping to Indian inspired living rooms, and from Spanish bathrooms to French antiques, 2020 is all about capturing the essence of global style.” We couldn’t agree more.
Christiana Coop, who is the co-founder of Hygge & West, encourages you to find what you love and choose it boldly, whether it be one of these trending movements, or something entirely contrary. She states, “People are designing their homes to reflect their personalities and creating spaces that tell their story. What makes you truly happy is more important than what you see in magazines or on social media.”
Ultimately, we at Oriental Lamp Shade Company encourage decorating your home with pieces that truly inspire you. We can create custom lampshades as well as custom color lamps through our upcoming new program and the expansion of this year’s trends gives us the opportunity to expand what we can create for you. And that’s something to celebrate!
